INCLEMENT WEATHER ANNOUNCEMENT

1/22/2026

Good Afternoon
As I am sure you are aware, we are expecting dangerously low temperatures over the coming days.  I wanted to take a moment and share with you how these frigid temperatures might impact the water system. The infrastructure for most water systems in Mississippi is not designed to handle extremely low temperatures, particularly if customers' let their water "run" to prevent freezing. While this is a common practice, our water systems simply can't handle the increased demand. You will slowly start to lose water pressure all over town as the demand placed on the water system will exceed its capability to produce.
If and when this happens there is little you can do to control it. Furthermore, this problem WILL NOT go away simply because the temperatures rise.  In fact, once the temps warm back up you can expect to have an unusually high number of water leaks which will likely make this problem worse.  At that point it will be important to turn off every meter where there is a known leak, and crews will likely be busy making repairs on main lines all over town.
We have got some challenging days ahead of us, and we will need the understanding, cooperation and patience of everyone to see us through.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the City Hall.
Thanks for your patience and understanding
